I have been told that I don't do enough news on men's footwear. If I am to be perfectly honest, I do find it hard to get excited about men's shoes but, having met with Russell from J Shoes and seeing a preview of the A/W styles I can only say that these shoes are gorgeous!

CLARKS UPDATE
From Monday the 12th of June we will have more information on the progress of orders and will be notifying customers of some of the styles which we may not be able to supply as well as expected delivery dates for others.
Due to circumstances beyond our control we are still unable to order Clarks shoes, this means we do have a limited stock.

So in keeping with this fitness trend I have decided to wear my Merrell trainers to London on Sunday to cheer on the 'London Marathon' runners - well it's as close to keeping fit as I am going to get!!

After months of planning and building work, Shoesdirect finally moved last weekend. This week has been spent settling into our new offices and finding our way around the warehouse.
We are just learning the new telephone system and have had a couple of hiccups with the site but please bear with us, we are hoping to be back to normal next week, in fact we should be bringing you an even better service than before as this will now allow us to hold greater stock levels of all your favourite brands.

We also have something for the men, the new Rockport range is now available.
One of the concepts are 'Rockport Washables', these shoes really can be washed in the washing machine time and time again, it's like having renewable footwear! The washables incorporate styles from classic boat shoes to contemporary driving mocccasins, great shoes and a great concept.

These are great shoes with a real sporty feel, the range is fantastic and you are bound to spot their new advertising campaign for Spring/Summer 06 featuring Nikki Sanderson (Candice from Coronation Street).
LOAKE
The new Loake range is now available on the site and you will not be disappointed, although known for more traditional shoes some of the new styles do have a cutting edge to them. I especially like the Trapper which is a suede distressed Chukka boot.
The kind people at Grenson invited some of the Shoesdirect team up to their factory in Northamptonshire this week to show us around, to say that it was an eye opener would be an understatement. We were blown away by the work that goes into each individual pair of Grenson shoes. Each pair is hand made with the whole process from start to finish taking 6 weeks!!!
We were shown every part of the shoe making process from the leather room onto where the shoes are boxed up ready to be sent out. These really are skilled craftsmen and it does make you appreciate how much work goes into one pair of shoes.

Having had the pleasure of meeting with the charming Patrick Duwernell and Nicole Dunlop of the Hunter Rubber Company last week, I was quite surprised of the history and the workmanship which goes into a pair of Hunter wellies.
Hunter have been making rubber boots in Scotland since 1856. Originally part of the North British Rubber Company, the rubber boot was produced in limited numbers. That is, until the start of World War I, where they were called upon to make a sturdy boot for the trenches, in fact 1,185,036 pairs were made. Again the company was called upon during the Second World War, not only for wellingtons but also gas masks, ground sheets and other rubber products.
The North British Rubber Company continued to prosper after the war and introduced the green Hunter and Royal Hunter Wellingtons during the winter of 1954/55.
In 1966 the North British Rubber Company became Uniroyal Limited and after being bought out a couple of times, in 2004 the management of Hunter bought the footwear side of the business and it is now a freestanding independent company.
Each individual pair is crafted by hand which guarantees the highest standard of finish and workmanship.
For both work and play Hunters aren't just a wellington they are a lifestyle statement.

The Converse All Star basketball trainer was first endorsed in 1923 by Chuck Taylor, a basketball player who joined the Converse Rubber Corporation sales team in 1921 and recognised the potential of the All Star.
Very little of the All Star has altered since then, although originally only available in black the colour range certainly has.
This American classic has been going strong for over 70 years and is sold in 90 countries around the globe. The Converse All Star still hasn't lost its appeal and is one of the most sought after brands available.

This is an exciting time of year for us as we are just beginning to see the arrival of the Spring/Summer '06 styles and after months of looking at boots we are looking forward to slipping our feet into some gorgeous sandals.
We have just updated the Clarks range for women and have been really blown away by some of the new styles. There really is something for everyone from heels to flats to wedges, you really will be spoilt for choice. In particular I have my eyes on Cruz which is a beautiful satin evening shoe in either pale pink or black.

BIRKENSTOCK
You will be walking in comfort this Spring/Summer with Birkenstock's original contoured footbed. The sandal's flexible arch is supposed to mirror the shape of the foot thus distributing the weight evenly. This German brand really has grown in popularity over the past few years and their shoes can be seen on many celebrities.
We have added a new style into our range, Arizona, this famous two strap sandal is now celebrating its 30th anniversary. We have also introduced the Madrid in silver, which will look great with a tan.
VAN DAL
This great classic brand specialises in comfortable stylish footwear for ladies and you will not be disappointed with the new range which is now available online.
LOTUS
A brand which is new to our site and also has a lot to offer is Lotus. Lotus is believed to be the oldest footwear brand having been established in 1759. Based in Northampton where it has had a continuous link for 170 years the business now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Jacobson group.
You will notice an influx of new styles and some new brands coming through over the next few weeks but we will keep you updated.

With fine tailoring being a big influence on the catwalk for both men and women this Spring/Summer, a stylish pair of Grenson shoes is just what you need to finish the look.
The Green family founded Grenson in 1913 and this Northamptonshire Company have now been making shoes for 140 years. Hunter wellingtons have proved to be one of the most popular of our new brands, and I know there are going to be a lot of happy people unwrapping a pair this Christmas. I just hope they enjoy splashing about in them as much as I do!

We are now stocking a vast range of Dasco shoe care on site.
A great way to care for your new footwear is to use shoe trees, these help to keep them in perfect condition, the beechwood absorbs any excess moisture whilst keeping shoes in shape. This is also the best time to polish shoes because they are being pushed into shape it stops the excess polish clogging in the creases.
We also have a range of insoles in either leather or towelling, these can be used as a fitting aid or just for comfort. As well as shoe creams, polishes, guard spray and brushes for both suede and leather. You would be surprised by what a difference a good polish can do to a tired pair of shoes. The Dasco shoe valet boxes are also great gift ideas.

We now have the Geox children's range available on site. The Geox group are known for their breathable soles which helps eliminate sweaty feet.

Any day now we will be launching our Sock Shop collection, we will be starting this with the "Men's Essential Range". This will include classic ribs and colours, trainer socks and for the more adventurous, socks in bold hues.
We hope to follow this with the ladies hosiery range. With coloured tights shown on the catwalks for A/W 05 they really added a bit of impact to this seasons dark colours.
CITY SLICKERS
It's Loake's 25th Anniversary. This classic footwear brand began in 1880 when three brothers opened a factory in Northamptonshire. Loakes attention to detail and quality has never wavered and it is still one of the best mens footwear brands available. One of the most popular styles at the moment is Burford which has recently been seen in Esquire magazine.
We can confirm that Shoesdirect will be moving to much larger premises for January 2006. Our new premises will allow us to offer our customers an even bigger selection of branded footwear. Check back soon for further information.
It was the Mid Essex Business Awards 2005 on Friday 23rd September. Some of the Shoesdirect team got dressed up and went along. It was a well organised event and we all had a great time. Sadly we didn't win our category which was 'Growing Business of the Year', but we are very proud that we got down to the final six...fingers crossed for next year.
We would like to thank our customers for all the positive feedback we have had since adding children's shoes to the website. During November 2005, Clarks will be launching an exciting range of mens shoes designed by Oliver Sweeney, one of the most successful British designers.
Over the years, the designer has developed a growing celebrity following who love wearing his shoes. His celebrity customers span an incredibly mixed range, from Aussie Olympic Gold medallist Swimmer Ian Thorpe to soccer star David Beckham. Not that I want to scare anyone but I always start my Christmas shopping about this time of year, (nothing worse than panicking at the last minute), and we have got the perfect gifts for the shoe-aholic. In the next few weeks we are introducing Bombay Duck to our list of brands and they have a fabulous gift range, from the quirky 'shoe fund' money boxes to beautiful satin shoe bags. This is a great girly brand and should relieve a lot of boyfriend's who need a bit of inspiration, (and let's face it when it comes to buying presents most of them do), and women looking for that special gift.
MISS SIXTY
We are also really excited by the arrival of yet another great brand.....Miss Sixty is coming to shoesdirect. This sassy Italian brand moved into footwear Spring/Summer 2001 and is getting stronger and stronger. Miss Sixty has up to the minute footwear which ranges from sexy to sporty and we will be launching the Spring/Summer 06 range which we think is their strongest collection to date, so buy your Bombay Duck 'shoe fund' money boxes and start saving.

We have found that some companies are introducing a more sporty sole to their mens footwear range, a good example of this being Clark's Flex Firm and Flex Leader. Although the shoe looks very smart the sole is more flexible and we are getting some good responses about this. We are also finding the Clark's Meyer to be very popular, this is a casual lace up but has the advantage of Gortex waterproofing. For this kind of footwear it is very fashionable and comes in a lovely tan colour, ideal with jeans.
At last we have finally got our Tabitha (they were called Orca) brand on the site. How could anyone resist these gorgeous leather bags. The Lost Weekend is just the right size and as the name says, ideal for a weekend away. Although the Go Less Lightly in gold metalic would be ideal for a sleepover!!
It is finally the end of 'BoHo' and we can finally shimmy into something a little more womanly, pencil skirts and cinched in waists are the order of the day. Team this look with sexy heels, Clark's Dupiaza and Bahama being prime examples.
